The task is to climb the 3 highest peaks in the UK, Scotland – Ben Nevis (1,343m), England – Scafell Pike (978m) and Wales – Mount Snowdon (1,085m) in under 24 hours.
For many this is considered as a real challenge and will test your limits irrespective of whether you are an avid hill walker or simply wanting to push yourself to the limit with this highly-respected walk.
As with any 24 hour challenge, elements of this walk will be completed in darkness over mountainous terrain with a mini bus sleep/slumber in between treks
What it involves
The Nationals as they are known, are completed over three stages:
Stage 1: Ben Nevis
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Britain.
The route taken is the ‘Tourist Route’. It is straightforward, but strenuous by hill walking standards. Ben Nevis totals a little over nine miles of trekking up and down the mountain before heading to our next task in the Lake District.
Stage 2: Sca Fell Pike
Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain has breath taking views, affording an excellent vantage point for its neighbouring fells as well as long range sight of Snowdonia on a clear day.
Walkers will often start in complete darkness using head torches but will witness the breaking of dawn either walking up or down Scafell often leaving our walkers stunned by the majestic views.
This part of “The Nationals” can often be the most difficult for navigators which is why it makes sense to do this challenge with experienced and qualified walking group leaders – safety first.
Stage 3. Mount Snowdon
Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales and is our final mountain. Starting out at Pen-y-Pass car park. We aim to get up and down as quickly and safely as possibly finishing within the 24 hour cut off time. The mountain is very popular and as such during the season (May-Sept) during weekends it can be somewhat busy.
